Jan 1: Carroll [Feltmate, Marion's brother] cooked for the barracks.

Jan 8: Margaret Haines & husband. Ada and little girl Dot. Albert Dort at Albert Munroe's

Jan 11: Telegram Lawrence Munroe wounded. Connie & I called at Ida's and went to Agatha's. Harry Armsworthy & family there.

Jan 12: Bert Haines & wife arrived. Murry and bride arrived. Connie here after the Reception. Letter from Angelo.

Jan 14: Went to dance which Curry had for Boy Scouts. [this may have been Currie Feltmate -pf] Lots of air force. 2 boats in. But not much fun. Everyone else had.

Jan 15: Slept til 12 noon.

Jan 17: Last night Connie and Kenneth Munroe were at Agatha's. Norman there too.

Jan 22: We went to Connie's. Met the 2 boarders there. Kenneth Holman, Russel Cann. Robbie & Frank lost in the woods last night.

Jan 24: Norman here also Connie. No dancing just singing.

Jan 25: Carroll cooking at barracks.

Jan 29: Cleaned floor. Waxed kitchen. Finished bloomers.

Feb 2: Clyde's third boy born today.

Feb 5: Connie and I at Agatha's. We 3 and Bernie and Allison played crocinole and Old Maid.

Feb 6: Burt Haynes and wife here tonight. Canso school burned last night.

Feb 14: Made snow house.

Feb 22: Connie & I to Alice's until 8.30. Mrs Angus [Feltmate] and Austen [Feltmate] & girlfriend [and future wife] Jean Murphy there. A Dance at Hall but I'm just getting over a cold.

Feb 25: Murdock is 14 today. [Murdock Munroe]

Feb 26: Listening to programs and pasting poems in scribbler

Feb 28: Saturday's mail came this morning. I went up. Carroll went up tonight. No one here. A drizzely night. Earl Duncan came home on leave.

Feb 29: Mr Argyle & Jack Pope here tonight. Sleet!

Mar 6: A new sailor came.

Mar 8: Nice bright night.

Mar 10: Everett [Feltmate] and [his future wife] Iola Peach here today.

Mar 15: Had dinner at Connie's because they had cabbage.

Mar 18: Connie here listening to radio til 12

Mar 20: Freight came. We got apples, oranges, candy

Mar 22: choir practise at Mrs Thurlow's [Munroe]

Mar 25: Connie & I to Joyce's and home listening to Tenesee

Mar 26: Haines' went away.

Apr 7: Norman came up for Ken's middy. Ken is in Canso and leaving tomorrow 5 a.m.

Apr 8: Fishermen's meeting. Quiet evening. Radio clear and peaceful. Met Marty today.

Apr 10: Velda & Francis Cashen married today.

Apr 11: Pa to Joe's wedding breakfast. He and Carroll and I at the Hall tonight. I didn't dance.

Apr 18: At Connie's store. Decorating boat for Art. Connie here tonight helping me on runner.

Apr 19: Working runner. Went to Agatha's and to Harry's for lace.

Apr 20: working on runner all the time.

April 21: Mama & I went to Art's reception with the Navy boys. Salad supper it was at Ethel's [Grover]

Apr 23: Mrs Dunc [McDonald] Mrs Loud [Munroe] here.

Apr 25: Mama, Pa, Bertha Pyche and I to the wedding of Paddy [Patrick] Boudreau & Excelda [Cashin]. I danced with Tommy Pelrine & Steven David & Pa. Came home about 11. [Patrick Boudreau told me that Marion's brother Carroll Feltmate played fiddle for the wedding dance -pf]

Apr 26: Mrs Cassie Armsworthy buried today. Clarence [Rhynold] leaving in the morning.

May 5. Talking to Norman. He and new cook Dave Baxter here tonight.

May 6: Didn't go to the dance (Currie's)

May 8: To Connie's tonight. She gave me a bottle perfume.

May 9 [Marion's birthday]: Was to Aunt Ethel's p.m. Mum gave me 2 pr stockings. Pa $4, Jamie $1 & gloves. Alice here tonight.

May 14: We went to Agatha's tonite. Ethel & Uncle George, Earl Duncan & Dave W here when I got home.

May 17: Church this evening. Rev Mr Pitcher.

May 19: No show tonight as expected

May 20: Connie & I to the dance for El [Eb?] Gammon. Good crowd. No special fun but O.K.

May 21: Connie & I to the pit.

May 22: To Edith's. Connie here. We talked about air force dance. Aunt Fan [Grover] cleaning today.

May 24: Thelma [Porter] here coaxing me to go out or rowing. But we danced instead. [Thelma was 15 at the time -pf]

May 26: Connie & I to show. The show was Joe E Brown in The Daring Young Man.

May 27: Murry & wife came home also Edna from hospital also Beatrice

May 28: Edith & Robbie & Billy went to Sydney with the Hortens.

Jun 2: Went to Show. The More the Merrier with Jean Arthur Joel McCrea.

Jun 3: Ma Pa Connie & I to Conrad's pie aid. Some fun. Tommy Pelrine danced. We all danced. Steve bought sandwiches. Gave them to me. Then looked for 'em.

Jun 4: Watched the ball game.

Jun 5: Marty & Johnny Goulet called here with film.

Jun 7: Connie & I to Art's. Gerald there. We had a lunch, sliced tomatoes and stuffed olives, cheese, etc.

Jun 8: Connie, Agatha & I walked far as the M[ethodist] church. Beautiful evening. Some airmen on the road.

Jun 10: Connie & I to Dance. Crowd from Canso (girls)

Jun 14: The Laurier took the raft away.

Jun 15: Agatha, Vivian, Thelma, Bertha, Joyce & I to Port Felix dance with Frances Cashen but came home in Navy truck. Lillian Russel played. Fight! There were 20 of us in truck.

Jun 18: Word received that Jim Conrad is missing.

Jun 22: They are working on the cemetry road.

Jun 23: No show. Pa to Antigonish. Busy in store. Howard Pelrine here. Russel Jamieson from Torbay down to Uncle Sidney's (others)

Jun 24: Saw Billy Munroe home on leave.

Jun 25: Went to Mary Rhynold's. John has a gathered hand. Dr here looking at my thumbs. Levittan. [Levittan was the name of the doctor, I believe -pf]

Jun 27: Went to Aunt Ethel's early. She & Uncle G[eorge] and I went to arrange Hall. Dance tonight. Goldie, Sylvia, & Marie there [three of the Williams sisters and Marion's cousins] . Great time. Quiet.

Jun 29: Big rumpus in the shop tonight.

Jul 3: Slides at the Hall by Rev Mr McKim. Sad concerning the Bible in wartime.

Jul 4: Sylvia came over to Connie's. She & Connie & I to the dance (for school). Big fight down the road.

Jul 6: Jesse McKenzie to dinner. His birthday.

Jul 7: Connie here. We sang high harmony.

Jul 9: Church at 7.45. Mr Weaver of Halifax, Mission to Seamen.

Jul 11: Weeding the garden and in the shop. Mama painting the church fence.

Jul 12: Edith and Art here tonight.

Jul 14: To Canso with Commander Argyle & Art. To Dr Stanton about my thumbs.

Jul 15: Bananas for supper!

Jul 19: Went to Dance. Harry Cashen played some.

Jul 25: Went to see Mrs George and Winifred. Ward is home. Jack Phalen & family is home.

Jul 28: Dance tonight. Harry A. Jack Phalen played.

Jul 29: cleaned and baked.

Aug 1: Truck came from Antigonish. Very busy.

Aug 2: Sewing for Mrs Tanner.

Aug 9: Goldie [(Williams) Hastings] here p.m. Donny & I playing on beach waiting for Hendsbee's truck. [Donny was Goldie's little son -pf]

Aug 9: Grand time at the clam bake out to Witch Cove. Airforce there. Nice bunch. Dance later.

Aug 10: Dance for school. Hall crammed. Went to Aunt Ethel's p.m. after a short meeting by sewing teacher.

Aug 13: John Matthews came up and they went to the barracks. Deltina, Clissie & Ida here p.m.

Aug 16: Isabel here p.m. also little Lloyd

Aug 17: Marty & Dave had a dance. Some strangers there. I didn't dance at all.

Aug 18: Went to Aunt Ethel's in Co-op truck.

Aug 21: Can & Fostena [Can Feltmate married to Fostena (Munroe)] went away.

Aug 22: Mel Munroe and wife here a few minutes.

Aug 24: Mr Rowe ordained. Mrs Nelt [Grover], Ethel, Ina, Mrs Thurlo [Munroe] & Currie to Mulgrave. No sewing class as expected.

Aug 27: Writing letters back of the island. Caught in the rain.

Aug 28: Nothing special. Carroll to Canso in Navy truck.

Aug 31: Thelma Bednar here p.m. Raining. Finer tonight. Blanche Harris took the women to Guild at Fanny's [Grover]. Truck to Antigonish. I went to bed after sitting alone knitting.

Sep 1: Didn't go to dance (for school)

Sep 2: Eva Hambling here

Sep 5: Norman came up about 11 p.m to say so long. I was in bed.

Sep 6: Norman, Lloyd, George O'Hearn left a.m. Stew & Georgena McLaughlin married. Rain ! Robbie & Edith stood for them.

Sep 8: Dance for Eb Gammon.

Sep 9: Navy truck upset at Grey Hill. One girl hurt. To bed early.

Sep 10: The 3 new sentries and Ken Halliway left

Sep 11: Took picture of Stew & wife. Fanny Al [Munroe] to supper. Connie & I went to Bert's gate with her. Met Navy truck and said goodbye to Stew & Cook Whalen. WRENS came in.

Sep 28: Shower for Austen [Feltmate] at Angus' [Feltmate's, Austen's dad]. Connie & I went up with Duncan McDonald.

Oct 1: Edith Baldwin [Art's wife] went home with Commander Argyle.

Oct 4: Dance tonight (Lillian Russel). Harvey Munroe's boys there Wallace & Clayton

Oct 7: Ainsley P arrived

Oct 9: Ainsley left pm

Oct 10: Agatha & I collecting around home and at Alden's [Munroe] & aunt Ethel's

Oct 11: Agatha & I to Mrs Phalen's, Jim's & Ida's collecting. Dance at the Hall but didn't go

Oct 12: Gathered at Ida's to present Mr & Mrs Rowe with a Comforter from the Guild and $32.75 from all church members. The girls went to P[ort] F[elix] dance.

Oct 13: In store all day. Knit tonight. Carroll fishing.

Oct 16: Pa to Queensport. I was in store. Aunt Ethel here very short time. Joe Grant played over Antigonish.

Oct 17: Pat to Canso. I was in store. Knitting.

Oct 18: To Aunt Ethel's [Grover] p.m. Uncle Sidney [Grover] there to supper. He was working at the boat

Oct 19: Blanch Harris had a dance. Didn't go. Pa to Antigonish. Fr. Forest & Percy Pelrine brought money for lobster fishermen.

Oct 20: Connie [Grover], Aunt Ina [Grover] & I to Dance for Aunt Fanny [Grover]. Danced with Allison [Conrad?-pf] & Percy Munroe. Ladie's choice Allison, corners Arthur. Left at 12.

Oct 21: Tug boat, small dredge & Laurier in. Raining tonight.

Oct 22: Harry Cashen his father, mother, Frances, Velda, Cecilia, Walter, baby Barbara and Annie Dort Roony here.

Oct 24: We went to the office for Guild parcel.

Oct 26: Guild at Lizzie's [(Duncan Rhynold) Porter]. She is 52 today. Dance at Hall. Rainy.

Oct 27: Working on Guild work tonight.

Oct 29: To aunt Ethel's [Grover] for supper. Boarders there. Mr O'Connol, Mac   [here she left a space-pf], Herner the Indian, and Art Boudreau whom I saw at the San [in Kentville]. Blowing tonight.

Oct 30: Sylvia [Williams] came to Connie's.They went to the Masquerade. Pa & Sam went too.

Oct 31: Airforce came down to the barracks. They had a Treasure Hunt from there to Fred's [Rhynold]. Some fun. Sylvia & Connie & I ventured out now & then. 2 strange boats came at 10:30.

Nov 1: I was to Connie's tonight. Talked about Toronto etc.

Nov 2: Sylvia, Connie & I to Aunt Ethel's tonight. They went to the dance at 10.30. I came home. Very lovely & moonlight.

Nov 4: Sylvia & I to Aunt Ethel's. I helped her draw off her mat. Sylvia went back to Connie's Marion Ellis there tonight.

Nov 6: Home knitting. Donny Feltmate home on leave. [son of Angus]

Nov 7: Rain. Kids had a dance. We didn't go.

Nov 8: Announcement of Art Baldwin's baby William Arthur.

Nov 9: Connie & I to Blanche's dance. Everett [Feltmate] home on leave.

Nov 10: Carroll got 4500 fish.

Nov 11: Cleaned & sewed & pressed Carroll's suit for $1.00

Nov 12: Alice [Duncan] & Lillian Conrad over this evening.

Nov 13: working on place mats.

Nov 15: Working down on hill.

Nov 17: Connie & I to show. Rhythm of the Islands with Andy Devine. Not much.

Nov 18: To Nelt's shop [Grover] all p.m. sewing. Home.

Nov 21: Edna Duncan came home tonight.

Nov 22: Pa to Fred's [Rhynold] playing cards for beef. Won 8 or 10 lbs.

Nov 24: Connie & I to show. (David Bruce in Honeymoon Lodge). 3 of their boarders left. 2 plumbers came.

Nov 25: A dance but didn't go.

Nov 26: to Connie's p.m. Met Mr McLoud & McLean. Arthur Chapel still there. Connie here tonight.

Nov 27: Carroll & I to Uncle Sidney's [Grover, father of Connie]. Playing. Mr McLoud very good especially on waltzes.

Nov 28: Rain. Billy Robertson is 3 today. Mama & I went in all afternoon from 2 o'clock. Connie & I got home from the office with Art & Collins. I expected the boarders but still Raining.

Nov 29: Connie & I to Blanche's dance. Bernie bought my lunch. I danced with Arthur, Lawrence and Chapel. Ladies choice Mr McLoud.

Dec 1. Pa to show. Falcon [Duncan] here.

Dec 2: Mama & I knitting. Pa to Fred's playing for beef. Got 6 lbs. To Aunt Ethel's p.m.  Didnt't stay to supper as she has 4 boarders.

Dec 4: Aunt Ethel to Antigonish. Uncle George got supper. I stayed til after 8 pm . The painters are Penny, Beaton

Dec 5: To Robbie's. He made French Fries.

Dec 10: Mama & I to Ethel's for supper. Bananas ! ! !

Dec 14: to Ethel's p.m. but too cloudy for pictures. June came home last night.

Dec 15: Went to Show Hi Ya Sailor with Connie [Grover and her mother ] Ina. Went to Ethel's this a.m. Took pictures. Mailed parcel to Jamie $1.11 and Annie & Marie.

Dec 23: Connie & Patsy M & I went to Agatha's. Joe Grant played there. Angelo came home about 11.30. Huntly [Hendsbee] brought him. [Patsy is probably Patsy Munroe, new wife of Ainsley Munroe-pf]

Dec 24: Angelo to Sam's a.m. To the barracks p.m. Connie & he & I took around the gifts. Church tonight.

Dec 25: Angelo went about 8.30. I went to see Connie's presents. We went to Robby's Vivian's Agatha's pm. Ina and Connie here tonight

Dec 26 To Beatrices. Isabel & Doug here til about 8 pm and later we were all at Falcon's

Dec 29: To show. Blondie & the Bumsteads. Cold night. George [Grover] had some laugh at the 3 Stooges.

Dec 30: Letter to us all from Angelo.
