CASHEN, John Henry "Harry" - 89, Dartmouth, died March 19, 2003, in Dartmouth General Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Port Felix, Guysborough Co., July 17, 1913, he was a son of the late John Edward and Annie Celina (Boudreau) Cashen. He served with the R.C.A.F. during the Second World War. He retired from (Shearwater) civil service in 1973. He was a past member of St. Thomas More Parish in Dartmouth. He was a founding member of the Maritime Old Time Fiddling Contest and also a participant. He was also a member of the Dartmouth Senior Citizens Band. Throughout his very active life, he was forever faithful and caring to his family and friends. He had an adventurous spirit, loved to travel, always with a twinkle in his eye. Had been anxiously awaiting the arrival of his first great-grandchild. He is survived by his caring former wife, Garnette (Richard) Cashen, Dartmouth; sons, Donald (June), Brackley Beach, P.E.I.; Richard (Nancy), Dartmouth; Eugene, Dartmouth; Brian (Carol), Timberlea; daughters, Sheila (Ronald) Morgan, Dartmouth; Irene (John) Schofield, Dartmouth; Deborah (John) Roy, Falmouth; Norma (Mark) White, Dartmouth; Brenda, Dartmouth; grandchildren, Lisa and Jason Morgan, Tom and Lynn Cashen, Deanna and Brad Schofield, Melissa and Julianna Roy, Jennifer White, Richard Cashen Jr., Michael and Adam Cashen, Scott and Stephanie Cashen. Surviving are sister, Cecilia Dort, Chicopee Falls, Mass; brother, John Edward, Port Felix, Guysborough Co.; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by son, Harry Thomas; daughter-in-law, Catherine; sister, Eleanor Dort; brothers, Howard, Francis; one brother in infancy. Visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today and Friday in Dartmouth Funeral Home, 29 Queen St. Funeral mass 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Thomas More Church, 1 Kuhn Rd., Dartmouth, Rev. Owen Connolly and Rev. Gerald David officiating. Interment in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Donations to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scoita.
