AVERY, Donald James
AVERY, Donald James - 70, passed away on Tuesday, July 13, 2004, at home surrounded by his loving family, following a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born in Larry's River, Guysborough Co., he was a son of the late Isaac and Charlotte Avery. Don was employed for 20 years with Dominion Stores, followed by 19 years with Metro Transit. He was a faithful member of St. Michael's Parish for 40 years, serving as a Eucharistic minister and was a member of Knights of Columbus, Council No. 5017. In his spare time, Don enjoyed golfing and was an avid card player. Left to mourn a loving husband, father and "Grampie" are his wife, Virginia (MacDonald); daughter, Lois (Douglas) Pyke; son, Brad (Tanya); granddaughters, Jessica and Alyssa Pyke; grandson, Brady Avery. The loss of their dear brother is also mourned by Joseph (Garnet), Larry's River; Joseph (Debbie), Dartmouth; Betty Murphy, Larry's River; Claire Fraser, Halifax; Eva Pitts, Millie MacLean, both of New Glasgow; Gladys Barron (Bob), Marion Scotland (Jay), Alice Avery, all of Ontario; Doris Currie (Don), Bedford; sisters-in-law, Gerry Avery, Linda Avery, both of Dartmouth. He was predeceased by brothers, Harold and Ronald. Visitation will take place in Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Rd., Halifax today from 7-9 p.m. and Thursday, July 15 from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated by Rev. Father John Mills on Friday, July 16, at 10 a.m. in St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church corner of Herring Cove Road and St. Michael's Avenue. Burial in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Sackville.
