JOSEPH CORNELIUS "CONN" AVERY

AVERY, Joseph Cornelius "Conn" - 81, Belle Cote, Inverness Co., died peacefully surrounded by his family September 14, 2002, in Sacred Heart Community Health Centre, Cheticamp. Born in Larry's River, he was a son of the late Bert and Cecilia (Girrior) Avery. He was a member of St. Michael Church, Margaree. Conn served overseas during the Second World War and continued his career in the RCAF for 27 years, retiring in 1968. He was a member of the Father Robert Wicks Council of the Knights of Columbus and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 32, Cheticamp. He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marion LeBlanc; children, Melvin (Sadie), Kanata, Ont.; Valerie (Ron) Higgins, Moncton, N.B.; Christena, Halifax; Bert (Suzanne), Russell, Ont.; Janine (Julian) Ponee, Bethany, Ont.; brothers, Reg, Halifax; sister, Blanche, Dartmouth; grandchildren, Dana and Tracy Avery, Matthew, Ryan and Kate Higgins, Isaac and Nathan Avery, Joshua and Jordan Ponee; several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in Belle Cote Community Centre. Funeral mass will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. Michael Church, Margaree, Father Peter MacLeod officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to The Palliative Care Unit of Sacred Heart Community Health Centre or a charity of donor's choice would be appreciated. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Cheticamp Funeral Services Ltd.
