SIMON JOSEPH GERRIOR

GERRIOR, Simon Joseph - Lundy, Guysborough Co., passed away February 20, 2002, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. Born on October 18, 1921 to the late Alexander and Angeline (Avery) Gerrior. He served with The Nova Scotia Highlander Regiment from 1940 to 1946. For the next 40 years Simon worked for the City of Halifax, National Sea Products and the Department of Lands and Forest, Guysborough. Upon his retirement in 1980, he moved to Donahue Lake where he enjoyed fishing and hunting and time with his grandchildren. He is survived by daughter, Carmelita DeYoung Gerrior, Montreal; sons, Douglas (Florence), Wilfred (Joy), Halifax; Brian (Joanna), Chester; Gilliard, Donahue Lake; grandchildren, Christopher, Kimberly and RJ; great-grandchildren; brother, Lester, Portland, Oregon; sisters, Cora Howie, Donahue Lake; Victoria, Dartmouth. He was predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Alice Christina; sister, Mildred; brothers, Joseph, William and James. Visitation Monday, 12 - 2 p.m. in St. Peter's Church, Larry's River with service to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Victorian Order of Nurses, Palliative Care Unit, QEII.
