DORT, Malcolm Thomas - 82, Dartmouth, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on December 1, 1997. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Born in Cole Harbour, Guysborough Co., in 1914, he was a son of the late David and Lilia (O'Leary) Dort. He was a retired carpenter and a veteran of the Second World War. He was a member of Royal Canadian Legion, Somme Branch, Dartmouth. He was also an avid hunter, fisherman and card player. Surviving are his wife, Catherine (Phalen) (O'Connell) Dort; sister, Margaret Webber, Tor Bay, Guysborough Co.; daughters, Alice and Gordon Pemberton, Windsor, Hants Co.; Mary and Terry Roark, Brazos Crossing, Tex.; Margaret and Lloyd Barnes, Topsail, Nfld.; sons, Edward Malcolm and Donna, Union Corner, Hants Co.; Michael and Mary, Dartmouth; John and Lorraine, Cambridge, Kings Co.; Joseph and Karen, Boylston, Guysborough Co.; step-daughters, Peggy and Melvin Clarke, Chester Grant, Lunenburg Co.; Ellen and Tony Chesel, Fall River, Halifax Co.; 20 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Edna (Flaherty) Dort; granddaughters, Elizabeth Dort and Lauren McCabe; sisters, Carrie in infancy, Gladys Berrigan, Anne Rooney, Carrie Dort; brothers, Walter, John, Leo, Albert, Allen, Joseph, Charles, Alfonso. Resting at A.L. Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland St., Dartmouth, with visiting Wednesday, December 3, from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held Thursday, December 4, at 2 p.m. in St. Clement's Roman Catholic Church, Gaston Road, Dartmouth, Rev. Robert Lloyd officiating. Burial at Mount Hermon Cemetery, Victoria Road, Dartmouth. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society or to a charity of your choice.
