ALPHONSO JAMES DORT

DORT, Alfonso James - 93, Cole Harbour, Guysborough County, died December 24, 1992, in St. Martha's Hospital, Antigonish. Born in Cole Harbour, he was a son of the late David and Lilia (O'Leary) Dort. He was a retired commercial fisherman; member of St. Joseph's Parish, Port Felix; Royal Canadian Legion Branch 117, TorBay and member of Army Reserve during the Second World War. He is survived by his wife, the former Mamie Myers; five daughters, Anne (Mrs. Ernest Avery), Vickie (Mrs. Leonard Avery), both of Larry's River, Guysborough County; Gladie (Mrs. Claude Sangster), New Harbour; Isabel (Mrs. Francis Bond), Port Felix; Maisie (Mrs. Al Claybourne), Raleigh, N.C.; five sons, Albert, Stewiacke; Harold, Canso; James, Calgary; David, Cole Harbour; Walter, Lower Sackville; sister, Mrs. Margaret Webber, TorBay; brother, Malcolm, Dartmouth; 35 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Donald; four sisters, Carrie in infancy, Gladys Berrigan, Anne Rooney, Carrie Dort; seven brothers, Walter, John, Leo, Albert, Allen, Joseph, Charles; two grandsons, Terrance Avery, one in infancy; three great-grandchildren, Danielle Avery, Michelle Lombarde, Adam Dort. The body is in the family residence, visiting 7-9 p.m. today, 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Sunday. Funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday in St. Joseph's Church, Rev. James Attwood officiating. Burial will be in parish cemetery. Donations may be made to St. Joseph's Parish Cemetery Fund. Arrangements are under the direction of G.W. Giffin Funeral Home, Country Harbour.
