Services Today. Concord [Massachusetts], Jan. 17 -- Funeral services for Walter J. AVERY, 54, an ignition specialist and veteran of World War I, who died suddenly yesterday at his home, 83 Thoreau street [sic], will be held tomorrow with a requiem mass at 10 A.M. in St. Bernard’s Church. Burial will be in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery. He was formerly in business here for 20 years with John W. Murphy, under the name of Avery and Murphy, Inc. Born in Cambridge, he had lived in Concord for 25 years. He was a past exalted ruler of Concord Lodge of Elks, a member of James J. Mansfield Post, No. 158, American Legion, and formerly was a member of the Concord Rotary Club and Concord Grange. He served as chairman of the Concord citizens’ committee that sponsored the annual Concord High football banquets. Mr. Avery leaves his wife, Mrs. Maude (Moulton) Avery; two brothers, Joseph J. Avery in Connecticut and Thomas J. [sic for W.] Avery in Maine, and two sisters, Mrs. Hattie T. Smith of Belmont and Mrs. Margie Smith of Cambridge. A son, Richard G. Avery died during World War II while serving with the Marine Corps.
