HOWARD WILLIAM AVERY

AVERY, Howard William - 78, Canso, died April 14, 2001, in St. Martha's Regional Hospital, Antigonish. Born in Larry's River, he was a son of the late Jeffrey and Mamie (Gerrior) Avery. He was a retired laborer, a member of Star of the Sea Parish and a former member of the Canso Volunteer Fire Department. He was a veteran of the Second World War, serving in France and Germany with the North Nova Scotia Highlanders. He was a life member and past president of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 46, Canso. Surviving are his wife, the former Thelma Hurst; daughter, Deborah (Kevin), Canso; sons, James (Linda), Scarborough, Ont.; Wayne (Patricia), Barry (Corine), both of Canso; sister, Mamie (Pete) Marcotte, Port Hood; brothers, Abram (Audrey), Windsor; Victor (Lucina), Hammonds Plains Road, Bedford; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by brother, Emmett; sisters, Mildred and Elizabeth. Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. today, 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Canso. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday in Star of the Sea Church, Canso, Rev. Daniel Boudreau officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery. Memorial donations to the Veterans Club of Canso.
