GOSHEN - A well-known couple, Mr. and Mrs. John Ed MacKenzie of Goshen, Guys.Co., celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last Saturday and were At Home to about 60 friends and relatives who gathered at the Argyle community centre for the reception.
The reception, organized by their family, was held between the hours of 3 and 7 pm..The actual wedding date was July 2 but the couple were visiting relatives in Edmonton at that time.
Mr. and Mrs. MacKenzie who moved here from Hazel Hill eight years ago, were married by the late Rev.A./E. DeWolfe in Canso,2 July 1929.
Their attendants were Nellie Greencorn and Calvin Bennett. Mr. MacKenzie was born in Hazel Hill, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. David MacKenzie. His wife was the former Wilma Grover and was born in Upper White Head, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Grover. They lived in Hazel Hill until they moved to Goshen.
They have three daughters and three sons. Present for the happy occasion were Mae (Mrs. William Adaiar) and her husband and daughters, Donna and Ann (Mrs. Howard Conrad of Halifax), Elsie (Mrs. Blair Jackson) her husband and daughter Lisa, Halifax; Sgt.Detective Wentzel MacKenzie and his wife, Dartmouth; S. Mac MacKenzie, his wife and daughters Sandra and Pattie, Lr. Sackville. Daughter Brenda(Mrs.Wayne Dort), Edmonton, and son Rev.Chesley MacKenzie of Sackville,N.B. were unable to be present. Present also were Mrs. MacKenzie's brothers, Seward Grover, his wife and family and Winslow Grover and his son Aubrey, Goshen. Also Mr. MacKenzie's former neighbours, Mr. and Mrs. Frank MacKenzie, Hazel Hill; Mrs. MacKenzie's brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph DeYoung(Tena),Trenton.
The honorees received many gifts including a decorated wedding cake which they cut and served at the buffet supper. Telegrams were read from Buchanan and Lieutenant-Govenor.
Among those present were Dr. John B. Stewart, Antigonish and Bayfield and his cousin, Miss Anna MacGregor, Bayfield and Florida. Mrs. MacKenzie wore a light blue street-length dress of polyester. She was presented with a corsage of yellow flowers.
